For sale on behalf of his owner
Doug (Douglas) is one in a million who has so much class, quality and experience to offer. He is a very well-bred kwpn by (Vegas), out of (Tallenger) (Furore x Hinault) with 5 generations of pedigree recorded. He is the perfect stamp of a horse, combining class and quality but still having a leg in each corner and a nice neck in front of you. He is a very desirable type who would suit a wide audience of riders from teenagers coming off ponies to adults and even the older rider would feel very safe on him. He has good conformation, clean limbs, is blemish free and straight movement. He is the full package to excel across all riding disciplines which makes him the perfect alrounder/ school master. He is a very solid confidence giver without being a plod. He also has experience in every discipline and really knows his job and loves to work so is a proven and will show his new rider the ropes. He has the most amazing temperament and attitude making him a yard favourite.
Doug schools nicely on the flat, he has a lovely relaxed way of going with super movement and elasticity. He has three very good paces; his walk is relaxed with a good over track and good swing through the shoulder and scores at least an 8 in dressage. His trot is athletic and smart with lots of natural cadence and his canter is uphill and very adjustable. He naturally has a high head carriage which makes slightly more novice riders feel safe as they have something in front of them but he works into a lovely outline if you ask him to. He is ridden in a snaffle for every discipline with a lovely mouth. He is a nice easy ride who is nicely forward going being a medium speed and responsive to the riders aids but not at all sharp. He is a very safe and sane ride who does give his rider confidence. He would be ideal for a competent novice upwards. He has been ridden by a range of different riders including a 15 year old girl and an older gentleman and he is very adaptable. He is schooling novice/elementary level at home and does a lovely walk to canter and leg yield. He has completed dressage tests as part of his eventing record but hasn’t done pure dressage as yet. He would very happily go out and do some preliminary and novice tests and hold his riders hand. We are not looking for a pure dressage home for Doug as he does prefer his jumping and hacking so would enjoy some dressage and schooling as part of a varied lifestyle.
Doug loves his jumping, he is a real point and aim jumping machine. He makes a nice scopey shape and is careful. He is nicely forward going into a fence and is very honest and genuine to jump, he never says no and never stops. He will help his rider out and still go on a miss, he really knows his job and wants to jump. He is very bold and jumps all fillers and water trays first attempt confidently. He will go on a short or long stride and help his rider out and fill his rider with confidence. He is very ridable around a course of fences and nicely balanced around tight turns and does flying changes where necessary. He has lots of experience to teach his rider the ropes whether they are stepping up from ponies, have had a long break from riding or learning to jump, hes a very genuine and honest boy. He has competed at BS up to 115cm in the past. He has plenty of scope to still jump that height. He would be a lot of fun at riding club level and unaffiliated sj and would be very much in the ribbons. He is currently giving my teenage friend a lot of fun and taking her from jumping 80cm on her welsh pony to 110cm courses.
Doug is equally as bold over xc jumps he absolutely loves it! He has plenty of pace to make the time at events. He jumps everything asked of him including ditches and water complexes. He is a very talented boy who has had a super foundation put in place with lots of experience to really know his job and take his rider round. He is a very straight forward ride and takes his rider into the fences nice and confidently. He really gives his rider confidence as he is very genuine and loves his jumping and doesn’t get strong or silly. He is very neat and quick through the air with scope to jump the higher more technical fences, has previously evented up to BE intermediate with a cracking xc record. He would be very ideal to give a rider experience around BE90/100 now. He has had a few quieter years as just a hack since his eventing days so would be more like a 14 year old in that respect.
Doug is lovely to hack both alone and in company. He is excellent in traffic and very confident in his own skin. He has been used to give less experienced horses a lead out hacking as he is as rock solid on the roads as they come. He is very sensible in open spaces and not at all sharp. He will go out for miles on his own and give his rider so much fun! He will also go out in a group where he is very mannerly but does prefer to be near the front. He has been a brilliant happy hacker/ fun horse for a mature gentleman. He would be very well suited to someone wanting to combine pleasure rides with riding club. He would be the ideal type to take on horse holidays as he is very well behaved to ride at new places and just has so much fun to offer someone. He would definitely make someone a real quality safe Rolls Royce leisure/pleasure horse. It’s really difficult to find a horse as talented as Doug who also excels as a pleasure horse and makes his rider feel very safe! He would excel as a mother/daughter share in that respect.
Doug has a great temperament. He puts a smile on your face every day. He loves people and will make someone an amazing best friend. He is always good to catch and lead in. He loves all the attention of being groomed and pampered. He is very easy to handle in all ways. He lives in and out and is happy be turned out next to or in with other horses. He is great to shoe, wash and clip. He loads perfectly and travels like a dream. He’s great to take out and rides the same in new places as he does at home. He really is such a genuine honest gent who deserves the best of homes.
This is a very sad sale of my clients horse. His owner is now 70 and has reached the end of his riding days due to having a bad back but wants the best for Doug and wants him to continue to still have a job as he loves his work. He is the ultimate alrounder that everyone is looking for. He can turn her hoof to any job and is very versatile. He would be very suitable for a competent teenager coming off ponies. He would also suit an adult wanting to go out and have fun together. He would also still be a fabulous event horse at the lower levels as he has so much experience to offer someone. He would also suit a happy hacking/ pleasure ride home as he loves his hacking too. More photos and videos available via WhatsApp.

Please send me a message on WhatsApp or call Katherine on 07460820294. Doug would have been a £25k horse a few years ago in his prime and is now priced at £12,000 to reflect that he is 17 this year but he isn’t showing any signs of slowing down and has the been there done that experience that younger horses don’t have.
