Darco won his first World Cup qualifier at Olympia in 1988 and finished seventh at the Barcelona Olympics with Ludo Philippaerts.
After retiring to stud, Darco sired more than 3,000 offspring. One of his sons, Unbelievable Darco, won the 2002 H&H Foxhunter final aged five.
"Darco started my career — he was one of the best stallions in the world and he made the Belgian breeding industry," said Ludo Philippaerts.

Manhattan's dam sire is the famous thoroughbred Abgar xx, one of the most influential Dutch sports horse producers. The damline of Manhattan is one of the most famous within the Netherlands, as famous as his breeder Mr. Huisman from Ter Aard.
This special motherline has produced the talented show-jumper Carrera (v. Joost), which won with Jean Claude Vangeen-Berghe the Grand Prix of Aken, also Valeur D. (v. Abgar), which two times won the Derby of Eindhoven with his rider Wout-Jan van der Schans, the International jumper Bonius with Rick Hemeryck and the national jumper Jogger with Magreet Boekee are out of the same lineage. Dam Utopia is an extremely nice keur mare and a very good example of successfully crossing a Groninger mare with a thoroughbred. Manhattan was reserve champion of the performance test in Ermelo and also reserve-champion of the stallion competition in 1999. In 2001 Manhattan achieved high rankings in 1.35 competitions: for example 2nd Hertogenbosch, 2nd Denekamp, and many placings in the top 3 in the Twente Cup qualifications and the Final. Manhattan was the winner of the 7 year old Championships at Etten-Leur at 1.40 m. level and than made his International debut in Leeuwarden with a second place! At Barcelona he finished 4th and 6th! Due to an outstanding foal report plus excellent results in auctions, championships and keurings Manhattan offspring are very much in demand. Manhattan’s daughter Solita won the freejumping finals at Ermelo. His sons Stetter and Skik were successful in the competitions for 4 year olds at CHIO-Geesteren and Ermelo. From Manhattan’s crop a very high percentage of colts have been selected for the stallion selections in Hertogenbosch. The offspring of Manhattan are very beautiful types with extremely good movement and superb jumping abilities. Manhattan is the highest ranked M-stallion on the jumping index!!
G Ramiro Z has become famous worldwide and is duly called the "Euro-stallion" of his day. "Preferent" Ramiro descends from the famous male lineage combination Raimond-Ramzes X - Rittersporn XX. The anglo-arabian Ramzes represents one of the basic bloodlines on which Holsteiner breeding has been founded. Ramzes gave a new dimension to sport horse breeding.
Ramiro's dam is Valine, who aquired international fame as a show jumper by the name of Corrale under Lutz Gossing. She was a daughter of the reputable thoroughbred Cottage Son XX, who became famous through his son Consul, sire of the influential progenitors Joost and Codex. Ramiro's dam is from lineage 776,
one of the most valuable Holsteiner female bloodlines going back to Achill and Edelbert.
In 1969 Ramiro was the absolute top stallion of his performance year and was used not only for breeding but also successfully developed a jumping career under Fritz Ligges. He excelled in his puissance performances (up to 2.20 m) as well as in competition where speed was essential. Ramiro moved to Studbook Zangersheide in 1979 and came to the Netherlands two years later. On the basis of his breeding efforts that earned him worldwide fame, he was declared Horse of the Year at Jumping Amsterdam in 1992. Ramiro is still at the top of the indexes in both jumping and dressage for many breed organizations today even though he passed away some years ago.
His progeny can be described with one word: sublime. He supplied a large number of stallions approved in the Netherlands and abroad as well as an impressive series of fantastic sport horses. In the Netherlands his sons Almiro, Armstrong, Bernstein, Dageraad, Damiro, Elmero and Zeoliet have all achieved fame. His daughter, the super-mare Ratina Z, is the dream of the showjumping world, winning both gold and silver at the Barcelona Olympics and the Volvo World Cup of 1993. His progeny distinguish themselves in dressage as well.
The Horse Breeding Testing Station Association has gratefully used the sperm quality and high fertility of Ramiro, which allowed this Association to play a prominent role in the development of artificial insemination of horses in this day and age.
