Penny has been my daughter’s best friend for 3 years and the inevitable has happened. She is totally outgrown and it’s now time to let another young jockey learn lots and have loads of fun.
We have done pretty much everything and Penny has proved herself to be a great children’s pony to progress on.
We have frequently attended PC and RC training sessions in DR, SJ, grass XC and Arena Eventing and been to racing and mounted games rallies. We have also frequently competed in DR (intro and prelim), SJ (75cm) and Arena Eventing (70cm), represented PC at Area DR and SJ and have qualified for BD Quest DR Regionals and Trailblazers SJ.
Penny has been on 3 Senior PC 5 day camps, coming home with glowing reports from her instructors. My daughter is solely responsible for her there and she now does absolutely everything with Penny herself.
We have stayed away with friends, having a blast and a splash at the beach and done numerous “pony play dates” with them, hacking, doing arena and XC hires, bareback jumping etc – just being kids and having loads of fun.
Penny is amazing to hack and solid with traffic. She is happy to go up front, middle, behind and side-by-side, on the roads, tracks and open spaces and is never silly or strong. My daughter now hacks her out alone too. She is a steady and safe type with a go button.
We were planning to let Penny go in Sept '24, but my daughter decided she’d like to have a go at trail hunting, as neither of them had been before. They both absolutely loved it, going out with both the Worcestershire and Croome Hunts. Penny stands still at the meet and when required to during the day, she excels both in the field and up front with the hounds working and is happy to lead or follow over the jumps. My daughter gets up to antics, like doing full scissors when they’re standing still and giving her reins away for a friend to lead her from their ponies! She doesn’t get strong, just more forwards, and always has brakes. She stays till the end each time, as they have so much fun and Penny’s love of trail hunting has truly put the icing on the cake of our time with her!
However, Penny is a pony and not a rocking horse, and so we would like her to go to an experienced, knowledgeable and understanding home, where she can continue her education. She does have an excited bunny hop every so often when she’s having fun and occasional, short-lived moments where she thinks something might jump out at her. So I would say she is not one for a total novice or a really Nervous Nellie.
She is also a monkey and occasionally pops out of her paddock, over 80cm electric tape, so needs someone who pre-empts what might trigger her to doing it and/or taller fencing.
Penny is as good as gold to load and unload, travels well and is happy to stand all day at a show. She is good for the farrier and her feet are as perfect as they come. She is shod all round as we do a lot of on and off road hacking.
She generally lives out 24/7 with us, but when the weather dictates, we use her stable too. She is totally flexible and settles in to her stable immediately at stay away events. She will always let you catch her and bring her in and happily stands to be groomed, rugged and tacked up and even picks her feet up for you!
She tolerates being bathed, not that she has much choice being a “white” grey, however Princess Penelope does prefer a warm water shower.
She also stands well for clipping but gets anxious when she sees the fur flying around her face, so we just cover her eye with one hand and leave half her face and ears on.
Penny is properly up to date with Dentist (Mar), Farrier (Mar), Chiropractor (Mar), Saddle fittings, Vaccinations (Feb) and is on an egg count worm program.
Penny’s entire wardrobe is available, as well as all her tack, including her brand new Arena GP saddle. Unfortunately, we will be holding on to our hot shower!
Penny is a beautiful pony and will only go to the best of homes. We know her full history and my daughter knows her inside out. We are heartbroken to be parting with her now and whoever her next jockey is, they will truly have the best of her. She is sound, fit and ready to start her next chapter.
