Due to his rider giving up, Minskip Murphy is looking for a new home where he can continue enjoying competing and can show a new young rider the ropes - cross country, arena eventing, show jumping, dressage.
14.1, grey, Irish-bred, gelding, 19 years old, but very athletic and doesn’t look his age. Murphy really enjoys his job and loves going out and about to events and shows, attending lessons and rallies or simply hacking.
He has competed to BE100 and successfully completed the Pony Club Championships PC100 eventing several times with his previous rider, most recently in 2023. However, he has stepped down to 70 & 80 very easily for us in the last 18 months, adapting to a relatively inexperienced (but gutsy) rider and we believe this level will suit him best going forward.
In 2024 he was double clear and 4th in the Horse Events 70 event at Swalcliffe Park and double clear and 6th at the Area 12 PC70 Area eventing at Elmwood. He completed the challenging cross-country courses at the Eastern Regional Pony Club Championships at Aston Le Walls and at the Horse Events Championships at Dauntsey. He was clear round the 80 at the Bloxham arena eventing at Aston Le Walls and the 80 NSEA Rectory Farm competition in Spring 2024. At the Area 12 Pony Club arena eventing qualifier in Autumn 2024, he was clear in the 70 and had one down in the 80. He jumps corners, skinnies, steps, ditches and goes into water.
He is a careful showjumper and not fazed by any fillers. He also turns very well and is fast against the clock. He qualified as an individual in the 75 for the NSEA plate championships at Addington last autumn and he was 3rd in the 85 at the NSEA show at Bury Farm in December 2024. He was 2nd in the 75 at the NSEA County show jumping qualifiers in January 2025, only missing out on a place in the 85 because of an error of course.
While dressage is not his favourite phase, he knows what he is doing in a dressage arena and will complete an obedient test. He lunges very well, and his current rider has enjoyed multiple lessons with no stirrups / no reins on the lunge. He doesn’t need riding every day and is the same if you pull him out of the field after two weeks off, or have him in regular work.
On the ground he is very polite, and he is good to clip, shoe, have his teeth done, worm, vaccinate etc. He has no vices and doesn’t need any special management other than being shod all round. He is friendly and confident with other horses and goes out with a mare or gelding or on his own. He travels in a lorry or a trailer and will stand when another goes with him, or he is fine if you take him on his own. He is good to hack, bomb proof in traffic and in open spaces. He is a forward, enthusiastic ride but never misbehaves. He loves attention and does everything with his ears pricked.
As a true competition pony, he needs an established rider, so wouldn’t be suitable for a complete novice, but certainly has a lot to teach a competent young rider wanting to go out and event / cross country / jump at Pony Club, Cotswold Cup, Horse Events, NSEA.
We want only the best of homes for him. He has a special place in our hearts even after a relatively short period of ownership, as he is a super pony and deserves to be treasured and keep on doing what he loves. We are in regular contact with his previous owner and will want to stay in touch.
