The time has come for us to sadly sell Alfie. Alfie is my mums horse and due to health issues within the family over the last three years it has been difficult to find time to ride and enjoy him and with even more recent lifestyle changes and health issues, the time has indeed come to find him a new home.
Alfie is ridden and benefitted from training with a well established dressage rider following backing, this training continues today to keep him ticking over. He schools well, is snaffle mouthed, is steady and safe with the inexperienced rider but super fun and up for it with a competent rider, he jumps well, has lovely paces and would suit a person looking to bring him onto compete in ANY sphere, he will be up for it! He would be a perfect good old fashioned all rounder/family mount. He should still be considered green but there is nothing he wouldn't take in his stride! He has done very little over the past 3 to 4 years and should definitely be considered 'low mileage' having done very little with my mum over the years.
He is the kind of horse that can be left for weeks and even months at a time without even sitting on him and tack him up and go. During the six week holidays last year he hadn't been worked for over 6 months, my sister in law tacked up and rode, even popped him over some cross poles. Her children both very inexperienced then had a ride on him.
Alfie hasn't been on the road/hacked since he was being backed/long reined.. There has been two or three occasions where he has been on the road to go to the local show ground but this is only about 500-600 yards away, he was 100% unphased each time, even in the heavy traffic, but I wouldn't consider this a hack really due to the distance.
Alfie is fantastic with the Farrier (is bare foot), vet, children etc etc. He is ridiculously food minded though, so little ones should avoid fingers being in his mouth area if you get him used to having treats.
His new home must be aware that he will require at least three lines of electric fencing as he will most probably go on an adventure of his own and we have never known a horse to find mud to roll in quite like him... Alfie is quirky, absolutely hilarious and due to him maybe once a year deciding to get excitable on the way to the field he is lead to the paddocks in a chiffney, this isn't really used now for its intended purpose but we still slip it over his headcollar for peace of mind.
Alfie is now back in light work, not a stringent routine but he has bounced back very quickly and is schooling beautifully. As his fitness and readiness to compete is achieved, his advertised price will increase. I will try over the next couple of weeks to get some better videos of him doing some basic work and some further photographs.
£5750 including Tack - (English Leather GP and unbranded bridle)
PLEASE NOTE - My work schedule doesn't always allow me to answer the phone and my voicemail is terribly un-reliable. If you call and cannot get through, please send a text or WhatsApp and I will get back to you asap.
