British Hanoverian Ciao Bella (“Gigi”) is a rising 11 year old black mare, full up 16hh (163 cms). She was bred by Woodlander Stud and is by Woodlander Clapton (by Christ) out of a Weltregent H x Archipel mother. She was given time to grow and develop, then started beautifully by her previous owner, Samatha Brown, a former UK junior team rider.
I bought her as a green 6 year old and she started her competitive career aged 7 under my local young rider, with very many successes. She qualified for the Pet Plan winter championships at Hartpury both at novice and medium levels. She has a good record at medium and a few advanced medium points. I then took over the ride on her completely in Autumn 2023 and enjoyed competing at elementary level. Unfortunately due to a recent medical condition I cannot now continue to compete her. I have therefore taken the very difficult decision to find her a new home after owning her for nearly 5 years.
She has been with Ben James Dressage near Bath since the beginning of January, being prepared for sale, and can be viewed with him.
Gigi is a very supple horse, with the key highlight being her lateral work. She has an established but still green flying change, which will improve with more work. She has started pirouette canter under Ben James and we believe that she will train on to PSG / Inter 1. She has also recently attended a Ryan Shannon piaffe clinic and showed much potential.
She is not heavy in the hand, and prefers to be ridden from the rider’s seat. She has enough go but I would not describe her as a “hot” horse. She is quite sensitive to the aids and does best with a kind, sympathetic rider. She has never been held together with a heavy hand or with legs clamped on to her. She takes some confidence from her rider, so is not a schoolmistress, but would suit a competent, confident amateur or young professional junior / young rider to go out and have fun competing. She is fully fit and ready to go.
Gigi is very much a people person and loves interacting, being affectionate and “talkative” with her owner. She is easy to shoe, clip, travels and loads well in a lorry or trailer, used to turnout in small groups or by herself. I have frequently taken her to shows and clinics by myself. Equally Ben has taken her out on a big lorry with other horses and she behaved impeccably. She hacks out by herself or in company, though we have not done a great deal of this due to our local busy narrow country roads. She loves pole work and jumping and would happily pop round a small course with some more practice. I have also taken her round the gallops regularly.
A clean set of x-rays from late 2024 prior to going on sales livery is available to a serious purchaser’s vet. I also have a set of clean x-rays from when I purchased her. She has had very regular veterinary physio and the last report can also be made available. Her full veterinary history can be disclosed to a purchaser’s vet. She is fully up to date with vaccinations, dentist, worming and worm counts.
Gigi deserves the best of homes and will be someone’s horse of a lifetime. It is very important to me and to her former owner to stay in touch. Possible sponsorship to assist with the costs of training may be available to her new owner if she is purchased by a good junior or young rider if this is of interest.
